How to Use Passtation

A quick guide to generating, copying, saving, and exporting credentials.

Generate a credential

  1. Choose Password or Passphrase

Password mode creates a character-based credential. Passphrase mode combines randomly selected EFF words.

  2. Choose the length

Set the number of password characters or passphrase words with the slider.

  3. Adjust the options

For passwords, choose character types, quantities, and additional rules. For passphrases, choose the separator, capitalization, and whether to add a number.

  4. Select Generate

The button changes to match the active mode. Review the strength and composition shown below the result.

  5. Use or clear the result

Copy or save the credential, or select Clear to remove the generated result without changing your settings.

Optional vault and exports

Save to the local vault

Select Save, name the entry, and confirm the local-storage warning. The vault is convenient but is not encrypted.

Reveal, copy, or remove an entry

Use the controls beside each saved credential. Clearing the vault permanently removes all local entries.

Export when necessary

Choose CSV, TXT, or PDF. Treat the exported file as sensitive because its credentials are readable.

Recommended practice

Use a unique credential for every account

Reusing credentials allows one compromised service to endanger other accounts.

Prefer longer credentials

Use at least 16 password characters when permitted, or six or more randomly selected passphrase words.

Use a password manager and multi-factor authentication

A dedicated password manager provides safer long-term storage, while multi-factor authentication adds another layer of protection.
